There is this guy that I met a long time ago. Let's call him The Boyfriend. Here's the story...
It was April of 2002. I was 19 years old and still a sophomore in college. PUT DOWN YOUR FINGERS AND STOP COUNTING. At the time, I had known this guy (Guy A) from a class we took together for about a year, and I had a small crush on him. I believed he also had the same feelings towards me. We talked about guys all the time on AIM. One night, out of nowhere, he told me on AIM that he is going on a date. It made me sad and wanted to
So I logged on and began chatting. I can't remember if I talked to Guy B first or Guy B talked to me first. Anyway, we enjoyed our chat. We then started chatting on AIM, and then talking on the phone. After a few weeks, I just really liked Guy B! He was very fun to chat with and had a very nice voice on the phone. We exchanged pictures as well, and we both liked what we saw. At around the same time, Guy A told me that the date didn't go very well and he didn't know if he wanted to go on more dates with that guy. However, he never really said if he liked me or anything. I wasn't sure how he felt any more, and I was too scared to ask.
Guy B and I decided to meet up in person. We picked a place half way between us that had a movie theater, some shops and restaurants. I remember I was wearing my triple five soul jacket. We met up in early afternoon, and he didn't have lunch yet, so we walked next door to In-N-Out to eat. After we were done eating, there's a little bit of time until our movie started, so we got into his car and talked. I asked him what his custom license plate meant, and we just talked about random things.
The movie we agreed on seeing was Changing Lanes, starring Ben Affleck and Samuel Jackson. I CANNOT remember what it's about now. I think it was pretty bad. But I do remember that we held hands during the entire movie. After the dreadful movie finally finished, we went to Barnes and Noble to check out the gay magazines. We shared the cute guys we saw on the magazines we flipped through. When we were done there, we got into his car again and talked some more. I remember we fogged up the windows of his car. In case you are wondering if we were doing what Jack and Rose were doing in that carriage, the answer is NO. It was just a cold night, and we were only talking! Before we could lose each other in the thickening fog, we called it a night. He gave me the tightest hug I can remember. He told me as we were hugging that he was really glad to meet and hang out with me. I told him I felt the same.
That's all. I got back into my car and headed home. One of us called the other to make sure we both got home safely that night. As you probably have guessed, Guy B turned out to be The Boyfriend. Guy A had his chance. Can you believe it? Five and a half years later, and we are still together. Gee! I got settled down before I could go out and explore the gay world. I didn't have a chance to go to gay clubs, grope cute guys' packages, and have one night stands. (This is what gay guys do, right?). I fell for The Boyfriend before it was even legal for me to drink, for Christ's sake. This is what my face looks like when I think about this sometimes:
Now jokes aside, I am really glad to have met him. He is a very nice guy and tolerates my childish behaviors, and most importantly, he takes out the trash. Isn't he a keeper? :-)
