I am not sure if you heard about this. A California senator, Roy Ashburn, who has consistently voted against any gay rights measures during his 14 years in the state legislature, was arrested a few days ago for DUI. He was just leaving a gay club in Sacramento. Today he came out. Read the full article here.
Well, instead of being someone that is true to himself and stands for his own rights, I think it's sad to have to live a double life, and at the same time, it's extremely disgusting for him to publicly criticize and deny rights to gay people. Yes, I understand it's difficult to be gay. You can stay in the closet for all I care. But as a politician, not only did he do NOTHING to fight for us, but he also actually voted against all gay rights measures. This makes me sick. He could have been one of many that make history by fighting for human rights, but he's now just going down in flames as the one who's never been true to the public, his family and friends, and himself. A hypocrite.
I do support his coming out (even though he's actually "outed"). I hope that by finally being honest with everyone, he won't fear to fight for his own rights and those of gay people across the nation.
